How Can severe Leg Ulcer Be Treated?

I have a leg ulcer that has not healed for nearly 2 year s. It s now being dressed once a week. What is the best way to heal it quickly as it has forced me to go off work sick. I m only 37 and have a little boy who I have not been able to run around with as the ulcer has started to restrict certain activities. I ve had laser treatment and a foam procedure with no luck. Seeing the vein team again next week. Like I say, I need this to heal as I have been off sick for a month now, second sickness episode this year and with a family I can t afford to be out of work too long

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

As per your description, it looks like a venous ulcer.

Colour Doppler examination of the affected lower limb will give a clue of a venous system. Venous ulcers are common in limbs of venous insufficiency.

Regular cleaning and dressing are essential. The wound should be covered. If pus is coming, it could be sent for culture and sensitivity for an appropriate antibiotic.

Please consult your doctor, preferably a Vascular Surgeon and proceed further. Please attach the picture for more clarification.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein,
General Surgeon
